The remarkable Nelson Mandela once said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”  I am a lifelong learner who has demonstrated success as an educational leader.
Academic Excellence and Equity

In making decisions that put children first, an examination of what’s working in Richmond Public Schools (RPS) is crucial. I am in favor of the school division in expanding successful programs. I also support RPS being an innovative school division and setting standards for others to follow. By focusing on the Profile of a Virginia Graduate Five C’s, RPS is preparing students to be: critical thinkers, creative thinkers, collaborators, communicators, and exhibit citizenship.

I will back initiatives and policies that ensure students have equal access to 21st-century learning experiences and programs across the division. Every student should have the same opportunity to succeed.

Throughout my career, I have been part of teams that designed innovative and successful programs. I will continue to advocate for student equity.

Connect with the Community

As a school leader, I was able to foster partnerships with local colleges, out-of-school time programs, businesses, libraries, police and health departments. I am committed to continuing to support partnerships that will provide opportunities for our students. I will be a champion for Richmond Public Schools as they continue to convey to community members about all the abundant initiatives occurring in RPS and how the community can support the division’s strategic plan. Someone said schools are the backbone of our community. Schools produce our thinkers, leaders, innovators, and active citizens. Providing young people with education changes our world for the better, and everyone must be involved in that process. As a community we can all commit to put children first.

Provide Teachers with Tools

As a former Richmond Public Schools employee for 15 years in which 11 of those years I served as a science teacher, I can attest that equipping teachers with the necessary tools will yield student success. These tools are inclusive of materials, manipulatives, technological devices, professional learning opportunities that are aligned with RPS Strategic Plan, teacher’s professional, and personal goals. Most importantly teachers are in need of continuous support from division leaders, administrators, and parents. Teachers must be provided with a means to share their successes and concerns. School division leaders should continue to ensure teachers' concerns are addressed and resolved.

Advocate for Advancement

I have never been shy when it comes to advocating for what is right. I will commit to advocating for the advancement of Richmond Public Schools’ students. I will commit to collaborating with city leaders to propose bond referendums to build and renovate school facilities.

Additionally, I will advocate for universal access to Pre-K so students enter school prepared, regardless of their socioeconomic or ethnic background. We do not have control over access to Universal Pre-K, but I will support partnerships that open this opportunity to more children so they are ready for school on day one. I will support district policies that created programming that is aimed towards preparing our students from the cradle to college/career life.  I commit to being a champion for programs that put our children first!
